In the western part of the Düsseldorf Nordfriedhof cemetery, there is a very large war graves cemetery, No. 111, divided into more than a dozen sections. It is the burial site for 3,857 World War II victims, most of whom were German. Citizens of the USSR (178 persons) and Poland (58 persons) also found their final resting place there. The graves of the Polish citizens can mainly be found in section No. 111A, and partly in other sections as well.
All the graves are marked by concrete memorial slabs with the names of the deceased inscribed upon them. The slabs of foreign victims additionally provide information about their nationality. The memorials (stone crosses) and gravestones have been preserved in good condition, the whole area is well maintained, and the ground level grave markers sitting flush with the lawn are clearly legible (data from September 2020).
