Three war graves burial sections can be found in the north-western part of the Bleckede-Barskamp Cemetery. The middle section, marked by a wooden cross, is a collective grave of 49 prisoners of the Alt Garge sub-camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp. The three stone plaques bear the first and last names of the victims; some of them are misspelt, however. The majority of the deceased came from Poland.
Beneath the cross, there is a stone memorial plaque with the inscription that reads: ‘The interred victims died in the period between August 1944 and February 1945 in the sub-camp of the Neuengamme/Hamburg concentration camp in Alt Garge. The 49 victims order us to live in a world where peace and humanitarianism reign.’
The state of this section is good (Sept 2019).
