The largest Saarbrücken Hauptfriedhof Cemetery in North-Western Germany was, as of the outbreak of World War I, the final resting place for soldiers. Nowadays, it contains numerous sections devoted to victims of World War II and the Nazi terror. The graves of the Polish citizens can be found in the so-called ‘Allied Cemetery’ (‘Alliertenfriedhof’) that houses the remains of several hundred war victims of various nationalities. It is located to the left of the main entrance to the cemetery, and covers Sections Nos. 35, 36 and 37.
The graves of the victims of World War II (forced labourers and prisoners) are marked by rows of concrete slabs with metal plaques bearing the victims’ personal data. There is no information here about the history or the fate of the deceased.
