In the area of the Old Cemetery in Tuttlingen which, in 2015, was transformed into a municipal park, there is a separate Honorary Cemetery (Ehrenfriedhof). It is the final resting place for those who died in both World War I and II.
In Tuttlingen, there was, during both world wars, a lazaret (field hospital) whose dead patients were buried in a separate part of the Old Cemetery. After World War II, the graves of civilian victims were also transferred to this site. As early as in 1947, a memorial site was established here for the victims of the concentration camps and the euthanasia program, as well as for forced labourers who died or were killed. It is also a place that commemorates those driven out of Tuttlingen and its residents who went missing during the war (both soldiers and civilians).
The graves of Polish citizens are scattered among the graves of Germans and other foreigners. The metal plaques that bear the victims’ names are placed on concrete plinths. Under the memorial devoted to the victims of the concentration camps and euthanasia, there are two slabs with the names of foreign victims inscribed upon them, including the names of Polish citizens. The state of preservation of the graves and the memorials is good.
