Cemetery description

The municipal cemetery in Wermelskirchen, not far from the back exit and on the left side of the main alley, houses a small burial site for persons of Polish origin and those coming form the territory of the former USSR who died just after the war. Most probably, these were so-called DPs (displaced persons), i.e. those who, during the war, were deported for forced labour or were prisoners of concentration camps and who, after the war, stayed in Germany in collective camps waiting for an opportunity to return home or to emigrate elsewhere. The burial site is marked by two rows of gravestones with the names of the victims inscribed upon them.
