Friedhof St. Laurentius

Cemetery description

The St.Laurentius Catholic Cemetery in Bergisch Gladbach contains 2 burial sites for Polish citizens - victims of World War II.
One of them is located right next to the cemetery chapel, and it is the final resting place for 78 citizens of the USSR and 7 citizens of Poland who were deported to Bergisch Gladbach during the war. The site is marked by a stone stele that bears an inscription: ‘Here lie 78 Russian and 7 Polish citizens from the times of World War II, 1939-1945,’ and a metal plaque that commemorates the victims. The burial site is surrounded by a hedgerow and is covered by greenery. However, there are no information boards that would provide the personal details of the deceased.
Not far away, to the left of the main entrance and the chapel, there is the grave of 3 Belgian and 2 Polish citizens. The metal plaque that marks the grave bears the first and last names of the victims and the information that they are victims of World War II.
