Cemetery description

On the right side of the cemetery, not far from the chapel, there is a large burial site containing the war graves of victims of World War II of different nationalities. In total, according to the data possessed by the German War Graves Commission (Der Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V.), 361 persons are buried in two burial sections and in several individual graves.
The graves of foreign men and women forced labourers - 12 persons in total - can be found in the section for civilian victims of the war. The official data specify the number of the deceased as follows: 6 Polish women, 1 Hungarian woman, 1 Latvian woman, 1 Russian woman and 3 Dutch women. The remaining 309 persons were Germans - women, men and children who were murdered in the Brandt Action in the so-called ‘Hamburg hospital’, who were killed in heavy air raids on Hamburg and other cities between 1943 and 1945, or who died after their escape from the eastern territories.
Nearby, there is a burial section for German soldiers, one of the deceased being a female nurse. Their graves are marked by wooden crosses.
