Stadtfriedhof Plochingen

Cemetery description

In the upper part of the municipal cemetery (Stadtfriedhof) in Plochingen, not far from St Blasius’ Church, there is a memorial site and a burial site containing the war graves of forced labourers - victims of World War II. The stone monument bears an inscription that reads: ‘In memory of the fate of forced labourers from all over Europe deported at the time of the reign of National Socialism.’ The site is also marked by 3 old stone crosses and 13 new rectangular headstones with the names of the deceased inscribed upon them. This is the final resting place for 15 forced labourers and prisoners of war from Poland, the Soviet Union and other countries. During the war, approximately 800 forced labourers and prisoners of war worked in the town and its neighbourhood. They were accommodated in seven camps in Plochingen.
