Friedhof Büdingen

Cemetery description

In Büdingen, at the level of St Remigius’ Church, in the furthest part of the cemetery, one can find graves of several victims of World War I and World War II as well as those of American soldiers who were killed in different missions that took place at the turn of the 21st century. Just beyond a red sandstone cross, the names of the German victims of both world wars are inscribed upon a set of headstones. Behind, there are several rows of metal plaques with their names, placed on stones that sit on the grass.

The last row contains plaques-headstones with the names of 8 Polish citizens that are buried here. According to archive documents, a total of 20 Polish victims were buried in this cemetery, including 7 Polish children. As a result, 12 plaques or gravestones are missing here.
