The Waldfriedhof Cemetery in Dachau is the final resting place for 1,268 prisoners of the Dachau concentration camp who died after the camp’s liberation by the US Army on 29 April 1945. More than one-fourth of them were Polish citizens. Their death is commemorated by the so-called ‘Polish Cross’.
The cemetery was also a burial place for Polish soldiers serving in American guard units and Jewish prisoners of the Flossenbürg concentration camp who died during the death march to Dachau in late April 1945.
