Herborn Kriegsgräberstätte

Cemetery description

The war cemetery in Herborn is located on top of a hill above the municipal cemetery. Among those buried here are German soldiers, Soviet prisoners of war and a small group of Polish prisoners of war, soldiers and civilian labourers. The central point of the cemetery, on top of the hill, is marked by a symbolic monument presenting a mother that is supporting her son. The monument is surrounded by the victims’ graves. Some have headstones in the form of a cross, while some other graves bear plaques with the names of the victims inscribed upon them. However, they are flush with the ground, so some of them have collapsed or are overgrown with grass and, therefore, difficult to find.
