The war cemetery, established in 1958, is the final resting place for 242 persons who died or were killed as a result of Nazi persecution or war-time events. All the graves were moved here from cemeteries of the former districts of Melsungen, Ziegenhain, Fritzlar-Homberg and Wolfhagen. Most of the deceased are known by their first and last names. Among these are 6 Polish citizens, including 1 prisoner of war and 3 forced labourers.
